I wanted to highlight two things I incorporated into my bedroom that I gleaned from one of my favorite blogs, Apartment Therapy. The first is a creative and practical way to display my jewelry (see lamp), and the second is utilizing wine crates for bedroom storage (love!). I have loads of ideas for using wine crates in my room, but they are a little tricky to get a hold of. For now, one will have to suffice. My next AT project is a DIY framed corkboard, we’ll see how that goes!

First my room looked like this (prior to moving in), then it looked like this, now it looks like this!:

I have a thing for planners. I love them. And in fact, I have kept all my school planners since middle school. (Maybe one day I will need to know what my math assignment was Jan. 18, 2001. OK, probably not.) So naturally, when I graduated from college I was filled with anxiety over the loss of a school-specific planner. For the first time ever, I would be on my own to find the perfect organizational booklet with all the ideal specifications – purse-sized, but not too small, weekly AND monthly calendars, enough space to write in several appointments per day, spiral-bound, inexpensive, stylish cover (obviously), and because I’m a creature of habit, academic.

The PERFECT planner, after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

This past weekend I succeeded in forcing myself to get up at the ungodly hour of 5 a.m. to venture to the swap meet in SLO with my grandpa and aunt. In addition to scoring a Simon & Garfunkel record for $1 and two super cute vintage paisley suitcases for $12, I finally found some great bookends for my Alice in Wonderland book collection - vintage brass owls sitting on books for, get this, $1. They are really heavy, and the only damage there is to them is a hole cut out the bottom of one which the guy who sold them to me said he cut himself when he was little to hide his money. True or not, the cute story worked for me, I don’t mind the hole.

**I also used an Ikea Ribba picture ledge ($9.99) to display some of my favorites.**

After the jump, check out some similar owl bookends for your own book collection. Read the rest of this entry »

I DEFINITELY need this adorable print by Jennifer Ramos in my bedroom. Seriously? Love it.

Here are some after photos of my bedroom makeover. Notice, most of all, the painted french doors, walls and ceiling, which I am very relieved to be done with. And notice the curtains, which Ryker is very relieved to be done with. :)

I still have to change up my bedding, finish my closet and put stuff up on the walls, but it’s a long way from where it came! I’m especially proud of my little shelf with my Alice in Wonderland book collection. I might even be using it for another post…

These are the before pictures of my bedroom…as in, before I move in (former resident’s stuff), before I practically kill myself painting the ceiling on a shaky ladder, before I fill in all 10,000 nail holes, before I remove every little teeny tiny painted over nail and screw, before I take off the doors and spend 3 days painting 26 coats of white paint just to still see the beige peeking out at me…you get the idea.

Hopefully by the end of this upcoming weekend I will have ”after” pics!

Aren’t these tiny potted flowers so cute?! My roommate brought a couple home from a baby shower and apparently they are from Trader Joe’s. I just love them! One of my goals for my new room is to have real flowers on my nightstand as often as possible…they just brighten a day. (I liked this photo from flickr better than my camera phone pic.)
